Backgammon is one of the oldest games on record and one of the least well-served online. We built the site we wanted to play on.
Snake Eyes is a free, real-time backgammon site. Pass and play, quick match, invite a friend, or sit down against a bot. No account, no download, no paywall on the cube. It's the companion to Double or Die, our book on the T.R.A.D.E. framework for the cube and the game around it. same voice, same house, different medium.
We didn't want another site quietly claiming its bot is "expert level" with nothing to back it up. So the bot tiers here are exactly what they say on the tin: Average/Intermediate/ Expert are our own hand-tuned heuristic bots. Good practice, not published research. Pubeval is Gerald Tesauro's real 1993 linear evaluator, reimplemented faithfully as a benchmark, not a rebrand. Grandmaster is the real thing GNU Backgammon, an actual open-source neural-net engine, running live on our server. See the mode picker for the full breakdown and citations.
Bruce doesn't do vague encouragement. Every explanation he gives pip counts, the play he'd have made instead of yours, real take-point math, is computed against the actual game engine, never invented. If Bruce says something, the board can prove it.
The game is free today and stays free. That's not changing. We're also working toward optional real-money tables under a fixed-prize structure built to sit on the right side of U.S. law, which means a real legal screen before a single dollar changes hands, not a launch date we're promising here.
